Heyho,
I recently modded my dead Polaroid 450 from a yard sale into a working unit. It is a permanent mod, but at last fully functioning again.
Battery
Here is what I did: Since you wont need the electronic timer of the camera anymore I only replaced the Battery for the shutter. This would make a 3V battery conversion which you would easily find by google. Just find out which of the cables come from the timer and snip them off. You also need to unscrew the hold for the old batteries.

Stuck film
Since the Fuji film will stuck for the first slides, I chose to get rid off the Timer. By using a screwdriver I simply broke the plastic cover of the timer from the inside of the camera, right where the screws holds it. By ripping out the inside you will be left with two holes – one where the dial was, one where the speaker was. You can glue back the dial part from outside and tape the back with electrical tape from the back.
Since the springs will keep giving you a hard time, I just bent them back. No need to get rid of them too.
That’s it. Took less than 10 minutes.
Camera without Timer
Two holes left (orange because of the tile floor). The square on the left is shiny metal.
The timer dial with glue on the backside. Putting it back to its old place will secure a sturdy back. Only tape from the back won’t be a good idea.
Dead timer
Taped the light leaks from the back.
cable from the timer is easy to remove
pushed back springs
Pretty cool!
